MOVIE REFLECTION
Movie : Barbie (2023)
Barbieland is a matriarchal society. I think it is unfair. Men are obedient to women but women didn’t cross their limits. They didn’t misuse their powers. Compared to real world, Barbieland is better. Men got some opportunity to express and participate in any conversation or meeting in Barbieland. However, in the real world, women often struggle to participate equally. Men still hold a dominant position in many areas.
As the film progresses, the patriarchy of real world was introduced to Barbieland by Ken. Ken transformed Barbieland into Kendom. Kens brainwashed Barbies and a few Barbies even became obsessed with Kens. Then the constitution of this fantasy world was about to change in accordance to Kens’ wishes. Kens wanted a patriarchal utopia. But the stereotypical Barbie enlightened the other Barbies.
At the end of the movie, Barbies helped in realization of Ken’s real identity. Barbies gave equal rights and opportunities to Ken and there was no more discrimination. Finally, it’s not matriarchy or patriarchy but it’s feminism—which was the best outcome.
