FEELINGS
February 2023
How does it feel like when a character in your textbook appears in real life and you get to see him? It really feels amazing but for me, when I first saw Nick Vujicic his event, I felt more than that. He is the first celebrity I have ever seen in my life.
From my English textbook, I learnt that Nick Vujicic was born with a rare medical condition that deprived him of both arms and legs. But the details did not stop him. Right from the young age, he fought against the odds to become a great motivational speaker and a beacon of hope for millions.
Attending Nick’s speech in Guntur was my first stadium experience. I never expected that this event would be a disaster seeing the excited crowd prior to the event. I really call it an unsuccessful event; but on a personal level, calling it a good experience for me would sound better. There were thousands of people from every corner of Guntur at the very old BR Stadium. Even before the event started, during the event, and after the event, the people were always roaming. The most hilarious part was that someone played an old video of Nick and everyone thought that it was Nick who was speaking in person. So everyone started to climb their chairs and climb whatever they see, in order to get a better view. Some even climbed on to the LED floodlight trellis. It was just a video then, he came like an hour after the video was played.
After one and half hour of sitting staring at the crowd and seeing the terrific performances, I finally got to see Nick.
There was a great enthusiasm at the beginning and even Nick himself started off with on a higher note. But then all of a sudden people started to leave before midway; Nick was still speaking. So our teachers were concerned about our safety in a big crowd, knowing that two kids from other schools were already missing. We too had to leave.
I don’t know what others think about it but I really got a whole new experience, the real ‘crowd’ experience. I got to know how a stadium looks like and what a real crowd is. Going through the crowd (entering and exiting) was my least favourite part because I did not even have time to breath. After getting out from the stadium we were all exhausted. Probably it was a shrewd idea to leave early, as the people were pouring at the exits. And then there is traffic, a never ending problem. I had actually expected that. Further we stood for another 15 minutes in the traffic, waiting for autos.
All in all, I really appreciate the government for organizing such a good event.
